3. NASA’s Urban Air Mobility Noise: 2025 Update on Current Practice, Gaps, and Recommendations
May 1, 2026 – A 2026 update from NASA’s Urban Air Mobility Noise Working Group that identifies current practices, gaps, and recommendations for addressing UAM noise. Darlene Yaplee, AICA President and Co-Founder, was a contributing author for the paper’s sections on Human Response and Metrics and Regulation and Policy, bringing community experience and policy perspective into the discussion of AAM noise, operations, and community engagement.
4. When a Vertiport Requires Local Approval: An Evaluation Framework for City Councils
March 2026 – This presentation examines the role of local governments when vertiport proposals require discretionary approval. It outlines a practical evaluation framework to help city councils assess aviation noise, total exposure, operational activity, and community impacts in a way that reflects lived experience. The presentation highlights how analytical choices determine outcomes and how local authorities can conduct rigorous, transparent reviews within their land-use authority.
5. Navigating Uncertainty in Advanced Air Mobility: Scenario Planning for Policy Pathways at San Francisco International Airport, Systems
April 10, 2026 – Scenario-planning study for AAM at SFO and the greater Bay Area, informed by expert interviews and a stakeholder workshop. Darlene Yaplee, AICA President and Co-Founder, participated in the interview and workshop process, contributing community and aviation-noise policy perspective to the discussion of AAM deployment, community acceptance, equity, infrastructure, and noise-related uncertainties.
