Description:  71 Community groups urge Congressionals to protect communities from adverse aviation impacts of noise, health, and emissions through the FAA Reauthorization Act of 2023. The FAA Reauthorization Act is a United States federal law that is passed by Congress and signed by the President. It reauthorizes the FAA for five years on a wide range of measures: extends the FAA’s funding and provides new authorities and responsibilities. For reference, the FAA Reauthorization Act of 2018 was signed by Congress on October 3, 2018, and the President on October 5, 2018.

August 2, 2023 – AICA updated its response to the Senate’s S1939 FAA Reauthorization Act of 2023 with suggested markups to 37 Sections and suggestions of 3 key House bills and 3 Senate bills for the manager’s amendment.

July 6, 2023 – AICA community groups prepared and circulated to their House Representatives a shortened version of requested amendments to the House 6-9-23 Draft FAA Reauthorization Act of 2023.

June 15, 2023 – AICA Founders Yaplee and Christiansen state “The legislation is a disappointment. It vastly over-weights the benefits to the aviation industry, it does not protect communities or the environment from the harmful impacts of aviation, and it fails to deliver a National Aviation System that works for all.”

4. AICA’s Detailed Response to House 6-9-23 Draft FAA Reauthorization Act of 2023

June 12, 2023 – AICA, with the help of many of its Alliance members, prepared and circulated its detailed response to the House 6-9-23 Draft FAA Reauthorization Act of 2023 prior to the House Committee on Transportation & Infrastructure, Meeting – June 13, 2023, Tuesday 10:00 am ET.

June 5, 2023 – AICA sent the Senate and House Transportation committees recommendations that included House and Senate bills filed since its April 3, 2023 letter, again urging the inclusion of bills and recommended language for additional items for FAA Reauthorization Act of 2023.

1. Letter: 67 Communities Sign Letter to Senate and House Transportation Committees Urging the Inclusion of Bills and Recommended Language for Additional Items for FAA Reauthorization Act of 2023

April 3, 2023 – 67 communities nation-wide, including AICA, actively conceptualized new bills and collaborated with Congressionals and the Quiet Skies Caucus on a slate of recommended legislation and amendments for the FAA Reauthorization Act of 2023. The letter includes: new and introduced house bills – 118th Congress, reintroduced house bills – expected, and recommended language for additional items.
