Who We Are

A National Advocate for Aviation Policy that Protects Communities

AICA is a bipartisan national coalition of more than 90 local and national organizations whose lived experience with aviation noise, emissions, and safety impacts informs its work. AICA advocates for responsible policies that reduce noise and health impacts while ensuring the safe management of the National Airspace System. The Alliance undertakes selective projects that advance improvements in legislation, policy, and industry practices that reflect the needs and perspectives of communities directly affected by aviation operations.

About AICA

The Aviation-Impacted Communities Alliance (AICA) is the first national coalition of its kind. Built on a community-led model, AICA:

• Brings together aviation-impacted community organizations across the United States
• Engages and collaborates substantively with an extensive network that includes the bipartisan Congressional Quiet Skies Caucus, Congress, federal agencies, academic institutions, industry stakeholders, and multi-stakeholder aviation forums
• Creates practical pathways for lived community experience to inform and help shape aviation research, policy, and practice

Through this work, AICA advances responsible approaches to aviation that reflect the needs and perspectives of directly affected communities while supporting the safe and accountable management of the National Airspace System.

Our Founding

AICA was co-founded in June 2020 by Darlene Yaplee – Concerned Residents of Palo Alto (CA), Cindy L. Christiansen – BOS Fair Skies (MA), and Anne Hollander – Montgomery County Quiet Skies Coalition (MD).
